P3 began in 2009 as the brainchild of several local homeschool families who saw a need in the community for a low-cost, Christ centered group where parents gathered to share in teaching and provide their children an enriching, social environment one day a week. After 4 years in operation, God lead the leadership team to Firmly Planted Ministries where we were able to re-organize our structure into a ministry which would allow more families to benefit. Soon the national Firmly Planted Ministries chose to end their guidance and support of their nationwide co-ops. But have no fear! The only change for us involves our name. Because we received such a great foundation under the direction of Firmly Planted we continue to follow the same general framework set forth by the organization.
So who can join P3?
Since our purpose is to be an outreach ministry we welcome all homeschooling families as space allows.
So what exactly is a co-op?
A homeschool co-op is short for cooperative. Everyone works together for a common purpose. Every mom at P3 has a job to do because many hands make light work. And many hands also allows P3 moms an hour long coffee and snack break with other moms.
Will P3 fit into your schedule?
P3 meets for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring with a few built-in snow days. Please visit the home page of this website for the exact location as well as co-op dates and time, and other pertinent information.
What does a day at P3 look like?
We start each day with a 30 minute long Chapel time. We sing songs and have a lesson presented by our co-op pastor.
After Chapel we have 3 one-hour long blocks of classes. During the 2nd block we all enjoy a snack/lunch while learning. Classes are grouped according to age: Nursery, Preschool, 5-6 yr old, 7-8 yr old, 9-11 yr old, 12-14 yr old, and 15-18.
Our preschoolers have enjoyed classes such as Dr. Seuss on the Loose, The Magic Schoolbus, A Bug's Life, Show-n-tell, art, Wild Kratts, and Funny Phonics. Our 5-11 year olds have had fun with science such as zoology and even U.S. history classes as well as cake decorating, Dangerous Book for Boys, and Doodle diary. Our teens have enjoyed literature classes, public speaking, health, chemistry, biology, physics, computer programming, Spanish, sign language, keyboarding as well as artistic pursuits such as intro to drawing, photography, and crochet. Most of our teen classes are transcript worthy. Its up to each individual families to make the most of these co-op classes and to decide how to include them on their child's transcript.
How will I serve at P3?
During P3 each mom will serve 2 block periods and enjoy 1 block to socialize at the mom's lounge table.
As a ministry we operate under a non-denominational Christian Statement of Faith. In order to serve as any type of co-op teacher, a parent must be able to conscientiously sign our statement of faith. At P3 we are dependent on our members' willingness to teach in order to offer a variety of classes. Because of this, parents that teach have the benefit of signing their children up for all of their classes early as our classes tend to fill up quickly.
What if you aren't able to sign our Statement of Faith?
That's ok, too! We have lots more opportunities for you to help us keep the co-op running smooth such as teacher assistant, special events planners, field trip helpers, photographers and more!
If you feel that P3 would be a good fit for you and yours, we invite you to join our P3 family! Simply go to How to Join P3 for all the details. P3 is a full school year commitment, so for that reason, with very few exceptions, membership applications are only accepted prior to the Fall semester. Make sure to beat the deadline!
